Growing form

Trees, shrubs

Leaf

Leaves simple or palmately compound, margin entire. Usually alternate, sometimes decussate (opposite and petioles of subsequent pairs having a 90 degree angle). Usually no stipules but when there are, they are often modified to spines (or glands).

Flower

Acrtinomorphic, 4 sepals and 4 petals. Stamens are numerous and with long and often curved filaments. Ovary placed on a long gynophore.

Capsule, berry, (drupe, nut or samara)
